Locker

And mostly people show how it performs slow going like i saw test on snow but it was again just driving slow from stop and both rear wheels where locked no problem. But then its normal snow road driving with other cars , turning in corner noone shows how that would work with locker so its not clear.
Saw some video of car going on icy road and it couldnt turn because both rear wheels locked so its just slided straight ..
But said all that i would more then happy to test it myself.

With regards to spinning the rear wheels, I think for the most part, with stock front diff, no Dccd and the locker installed in the rear with good grip on either a/t or m/t tyres it would need full throttle and some jerky steering Manouvers to get said drive line sideways with the 2.5L or less. So needless to say, you would not come across any unsafe behaviour from the majority of driving styles, and if you drive your car hard on the daily you may need to tame your driving style a tad to keep it safe on road to have the extra benefit of extra traction off road.

Exactly my thoughts !

Also the locker only works under power, once you back off the throttle, it will generally unlock. So change of driving style is key either way.

well if russians using lock-right lockers on Outlanders in rear and they have AWD as well means subaru can use that too , must work in city too no problems as i think they kinda similar cars to subarus . if that guy driving daily with its outlander locked means its working ok.
Outlander XL with lock-right in rear vs Outlander 3rd gen with traction control AWC
"]Mitsubishi Outlander TEST AWC vs lockright - YouTube
my VDC working very similar to that newer outlander as its tryes to get grip but in procces looses momentum and power and then it just need to work hard to find that traction. locker sure would solve this problem

HI All - I'm new to the forum. This is Cora from Torq-Masters, the manufacturer of the TORQ Locker. I'm not here to spam or sell, only tech support. Admin's please notify me if I need to upgrade my account.

Please let me know if I can help with any questions about the TORQ Locker - I see there are a lot of questions! We have been collecting reviews from the folks running our prototype units including their vehicle model, options, year, center diff type, etc. We also have an extensive make/model/option list for the Subaru's to help you determine if you have a 1 bolt, 5 bolt, R-180 or a VLSD in the rear differential. All this info will be available on our website when the TORQ Locker is released.

A couple things to note on the Russian, KMZ Lockers....

I've been researching their progress over the years. They first started by knocking off existing automatic locker designs like our Aussie Locker, which has been around since 2003.

The first automatic drop-in locker was the "Lock Right" which came to market in the 1990's and looks very different than what the Russian's are calling their Lock Right - which is a trademark issue, likely done intentionally to gather google hits.

Here's a link to the real Lock Right - which does not offer a Subaru locker:
https://www.powertrax.com/product-info/lock-right-locker-traction-system/

We introduced the TORQ Locker in late 2014 which uses a key-way design instead of dowel pins to align the cam gears. A year or two later, KMZ knocked off our key way design.

There are many components that go into a locker design, and the KMZ LR (let's call it) and their 1-click are unique designs - that pull innovations from other companies, like our own.

Our lead Engineer invented the Lock Right all those years ago. Our TORQ Locker is the antithesis of his career and has been proven in the most extreme terrain and on-road horsepower. We are happy to bring our technology to the Subaru market!

Welcome to the Forum Cora !
I’ve been following the R160 Torq Locker on Facebook since day one so I can definitely say I’m excited for its release!

The first question that comes to mind for me is: do you guys have intentions on making a Torq Locker for the older style Subaru’s like the L series?
Or should the owners of older Subaru’s look to modify their ride to suit the new R160 Torq Locker ?

Probably not at this point - I can't even find one here to prototype with. I'm not sure if there would be enough demand to cover our R&D and tooling - but we will see.

Hi Cora, welcome here ! I would like to know how the TORQ Locker behaves on a mountain road covered with snow, like the one you take to go skiing.

The L series runs the same rear diff as what’s found in the Gen1 Legacy in the states.

I’m keen to get one of these in the back of Ruby Scoo, my slightly modified L series, the rear diff is the last piece of the drivetrain that needs some traction aid!

And we need ofcourse another awesome look at this locker working/driving on dry asphalt bends.

1wd is that yours ? What tires are those?

The Forester with the locker is Matt's/NachaLuva's :iconwink:

I mean that last one without

Yes that’s my SF, it’s running 205/75/15 Geolander G015’s which look quite small compared to Matt and Mitre’s 215/75/15 Kumho KL71’s.
My A/T’s are worn down a fair bit but I’ve got a fair few exciting mods about to go into my Foz, and new M/T’s on my Dynamic D +0 offset rims is one of them.
