Outback '01 2.5 4eat VDC project

So couple years ago i bought myself my first subaru ever and after long time thinking took outback against forester. Didint had budget for newer one so went for some 2nd gen that i found

It was 2001 subaru outback 2.5 4eat eith rear LSD and early VDC package. All weather with heated seats, windows, climate control.
It has rear self leveling shocks still ok condition so i left them just put 2" spacer on top. Not sure is it made car harder and less comfy but it can take load very well. But its not soft car to drive fast on bad roads
Then i cut front bumper and put steel skid plate just for engine. Diy it myself from steel sheet from scrapyard

Salt really is the enemy of the any vehicle's underchassis.

Keep posting those videos. Subaru off-road videos are always golden.

It seems like the sound is coming from the steering rack-end. Have you replaced it already? It usually needs a specialty tool, by the way. Cheers.

changed all brake pads on snowy day outside at about -6 celcious so was not bad. was not cold at all when you doing something its not cold

Brrrrr - I'm glad I live in Queensland - 30 degrees C here and loving it.

this cold is nothing really. even until minus 20 celcious would be ok here. but about 10 its best doesnt feel too cold very refreshing

If it was -10 to -20 where I am, we would have had 3.7m of snow in the last 24 hours...
actually. snow is bigger in volume than water by weight, so we probably would have had about 4m!

And there's another couple of metres on the way in the next few days I hear.

Actually.. my figures are not at all correct.. 370mm not 3.7m of rainfall.
Weather (;)) or not that would make 3.7M of snow, I've got absoulutely no idea!

edit: well there you go. looks like I was about right!:rotfl:

Here its snows when it wants it doesnt go with cold it can snow with 0 celcious or plus1 but it would be wet mess. Beast its when its snows with about minus 5-10 clecious. When i was in finland there winters are absolute blast like minus 25 freezing cold and wind. Hehe. So we not bad. I would like more snow more more until roads are no longer driveable by normal cars. Give me more snow hehe. I would like to visit iceland antarctica or alaska and see all that snow there and drive subaru there. Would be amazing.
Sadly all i have here its salt salt salt everywhere on your car under it inside it. On your shoes too . its crazy amount salt.

its nice to see that it spins all wheels in snow , not just those who got loose
using VDC off and 1st gear on auto. and i think when i flat out on it to floor on 0:30 front and rear wheels where spinning at same speed , no changing torque or splitting between axles. maybe older system works differently, again with being solo you cant compare it to noone else.

Snow and dirt are Subaru's forte. I hope you gave your camera person a nice hot beverage after that!

on this kinda road most important dont stop , because its more snow down until you dont stop you going . i did stopped and then car starts sliding to one side then its starts to dig down when you try to move, but with swinging forward backward i did magae find grip to get back into that track..
later had fun in deep snow. again alone i was there in summer but in snow its different story , but i found that i could drive from there so it was ok .

if anyone will read it question , front strut mount when you put it on strut it goes in its place , should it be little loose there ? without bolt just put mount and try to move it to sides , it should not move is it ?
and should that height of mount bearing should be same height as that place on strut ? meaning they fit tip top no loose there and same height so all very stable after you tighten that bolt

It's been a long time since I pulled my struts apart but as I recall everything should be nice and snug and not move around in the mounting holes.
