Replacing interior carpet with vinyl

Anyone done this? I'm looking for a hose out solution.

Carpet is trashed, so I can either replace it with carpet or with something else. Vinyl would be good.

Have looked around the net, but found nothing yet in Aus for a forester / impreza.
 
If I was to do it I think I'd just strip the carpet and paint the floor in bed liner. That way water dosent sit under the vinyl and rust/smell.

Thats a good idea. Is bed liner a bitumen product? You could add some rust inhibitor to the floor first & put the vinyl on top for a nice finish.

Personally I'd just go with sealing up the little drainage holes & put in new carpet
 
My mate did that in his jeep. Bed liner in the forester on the other hand would require moving some wiring that runs under the carpet.

I replaced the carpet in my corolla wagon with some stuff from clark rubber, amazing what you can do with double sided carpet tape to make it fit like it was molded
 
Maybe go with a marine carpet and make it easy to remove with seats in, then you can just hose the carpet down if you go for a swim.

As for the bed liner it is usually a two pack polyurethane. I coated the inside of my trailer with this and I can say it really is fkn tough! It has a price tag to mach it's toughness though.

Am thinking now that I will replace with carpet, because:

1. it is not the carpet that is hard to dry. It is the sound proofing / underlay.
2. I can use non absorbent rubber underlay in place of the cloth underlay.
3. Carpet is much cheaper than getting a vinyl replacement.
4. It is bloody hard to get a moulded vinyl replacement for a subie.

I reckon I can probably get a reasonable carpet from a wrecker, or get a new one for around $150 on ebay.
 
... I concur. Unless it is moulded vinyl to the shape of the car it goes in, you always have bits that aren't smooth/sealed ... and for sure.. that's where you lose your important/valuable stuff... down the crack!
 
have sourced new vinyl moulded to the floor pan. Ciost is only about $60 more than carpet, which is worth it for the convenience. Will be fitting rubberised underlay as well. Hose out floor!

no, not really, but if I happen to get wet again it will be easier to deal with. Old carpet was pretty much dead anyway.

Aside from bog holes, I spend a fair bit of time in sand. Sand is really annoying to get our of carpet. This stuff will clean really easily. I reckon it will pay for itself in saving cash I would otherwise spend on cleaning products.
 
Vinyl didn't work out: wouldn't fit properly. Supplier ended up replacing it with carpet. Good product, and easier to fit. Will post a write up and pics some time soon.

I like the sound of the waterproof underlay :lol:

Thats a fair bit for fitting though. Great saving to do it yourself
