Well for Christmas the Fat Man in red brought me a snorkel. I'd been a good boy all year, so I got an Airtec snorkel for a 100 Series Landcruiser. This is the same as what TroyXT and BenWarn have on their Foresters.

Step 1: Find someone with more experience than myself... TroyXT.

Step 2: Take the side guard off (Correction that's about step 4... due to having to take the Bullbar off, take out the grill and headlight to get to the necessary bolts to remove the side guard).

Step 3: Attach the template (for a Landcruiser) and take a deep breath... then drill the hole before thinking again.

The holesaw didn't work. So the hole was cut using a drill and playing 'join the dots' with the angle grinder.

The big gaping hole (No turning back now).

Step 4: Check the hole for size

Step 5: Drill the remaining holes to hold the snorkel in place and adjust to suit.

Step 6: Rust Proofing

Go to three different Bunnings to find some 50mm clear hose and heat to allow fitment.

Step 7: Fit everthing into place and bolt it all up.

Step 8: Put the car back together.

Step 9: Show off the end result.

Thanks again to TroyXT for all his help, and also to OutbackBen for his assistance too.

Looking good. Now to try it out

A bit of an effort to take the bullbar off aswell but well worth the time. Keep us posted how well it works.

Thanks for the "progressive" (can't believe I even use the word) :puke:
photos. Looks great. Have fun with it and post pictures of it swimming. Where's the depth gauge mounted so you don't play submarine?

Are you happy with how it sits on the bodywork?

Might have a look at whether I could fit that model airbox to my outback, so I can get air via the guard.

Well done joel_57 & TroyXT. The snorkel looks great. :quitar:
Isn't it scary when you first see that big hole in your guard  But trust me (as you now also know) it's all worth it when you see the end result. :iconwink:

Also now that the snorkel is on, you might want to reset the ECU aswell.

why does it need to taper down to the smaller clear hose then back out bigger again? Is it for clearance?

Yeah that looks really restrictive, could you have possibly used downpipe fittings that go from round to rectangular but otherwise looks fantastic.

The amount of room in the guard is not much. I't hard to tell from the photos. You need to heat up and compress the black part of the snorkel a fair bit to make it fit in. The piping would be good it was a tad bigger but it's still a tight fit at the size we had, and there wasn't much other choice on a Sunday.

For mine (XT), I was able to get a larger piece of piping but it's really squished in there. I'm not too sure where it came from, possibly a Pintara.

If Joel finds he dosen't have as much power then maybe he can look around for something larger and refit it.

I think the job on Joel's is much better that mine. I think it was easier having the snorkel model with the removable head rather than mine with the single moulded piece.

Yes it is scary... Even more scary when you see the small drill hole turn to a 114ish mm hole.

And yes Barry I'm very happy with how the body work sits. (I couldn't work out how to double quote)

ok I thought the wheelarch would be a tight squeeze.
great job

It's not really a kit Bandido. When I bought the snorkel, basically all that came with it is the snorkel (the black plastic parts was all that came with it) as far as the rest of it (white pipes and clear hose), I went to a hardware store to buy the extra hosing, reducers and corner pieces. Hope this helps.

Joel

OK Joel_57, thank you, I can find a standard snorkel for other model and build the special parts for my diesel 09, thanks again.

Looking in to the same snorkel at the moment, but as I have an MY05 it has the indicator on the quarter panel not on the mirrors like yours, would this affect ADR compliance or road legal issues if I just removed it entirely?

I'd imagine it would yes... unless you fitted MY06 mirrors instead... (no idea if it can or has been done.) Have you seen Ben Warn's snorkel mod? He has an MY03, so it'd have the same blinker placement as yours.

I have a Pajero (NJ-NH 1990) snorkel on my MY05 Forry. The indicator is close, but it can still be seen.
If you look at the following 2x pics I think that the Airtec snorkel for a 100 Series Landcruiser it will fit around the indicator nicely. It also looks like it would clear the indicator better.

Yes it can & has been done.
Spinners put the MY06 mirror (with indicator) onto his MY05 Forry. From memory it was not an easy mod to do though.

The only thing i'm thinking regarding the indicators is the inner piping (the plastic on the inside resembles the end of a golf club) and i'm not sure if that would foul the wiring etc of the indicator.

Joel
