What have you done to your car today?

Cleaned up my work shop, which is mainly a wood shop. Tomorrow it becomes a metal shop! borrowed a plasma cutter again (did before but never got the time to do the job) and tomorrow it'll make short work of a piece of plate for my strut spacers!

Glad i cleaned up probably would of set something on fire otherwise :lol:

Exchanged my Proflex with the OEM SG struts and Dobinsons because I have to do the official car check (every 2 years), took me about 4 hours and as I was at it, winter tires went on...we have snow !

I will rebuild my Proflex and take pics, but not before spring.

Booked her in to get the bonnet resprayed ss it's going grey(fading) and the clear coat is peeling.
Getting all the paint work buffed professionally at the same time.
Will be a nice Christmas present for the old girl :biggrin:

Keeping the metal moths at bay is a major thing with older cars. Almost anything else can be fixed, one way or another. Systemic rust is just about impossible to repair permanently, unless the car is worth $100,000+ restored ...

Number 2 Colt had terminal rust in every panel, but the structure of the car was sound. When it came time to fit yet another re-co engine, gearbox and other stuff, it just wasn't worth it. New bonnet, 4x new doors, new hatch and the inevitable re-spray were more than the car was worth, regardless of the mechanical condition.
 
Yeah she''ll feel great RB once done. The current bonnet is disappointing as its just been destroyed from the sun over time. In the past 6 months the fading/peeling area has more than trippled.
The roof has done the same thing but no one really looks at that so I can live with it.
There is some rust around the windscreen so I'll be getting a new one of them soon and get the rust cut out. . That's the only real spot of rust.
Some of the underside of the foz has minor surface rust but not terminal and everything it's on can be replaced. ..

When I had the rust cut out around Roo1's windscreen in 2011, they managed to remove and refit the screen without breaking it. The windscreen people seem to be a lot better at this than in even the fairly recent past. Sure saves a packet, that's assuming that you don't need a new windscreen ATM. At the age of your Fozzie, you probably do though.
 
My bonnet, roof & doors have golfball dimples to make it more aerodynamic for maximum speed! :lildevil:

Yes I do need a new windscreen RB. As far as I'm aware it's the original. It is all pitted from the highway driving by I'm doing so I'll be getting that done at the same time if $$ allow. Maybe ever get the faded roof painted too. ...
 
^ Probably a good thing to replace it at this age, Taz.

Being the original, it is probably glued in pretty well. They had to break the OEM one in Roo1 when it was originally replaced. Unfortunately, they also damaged the paintwork, causing the rust around the windscreen.

The "new" one was put in with releasable adhesive, and could be removed and re-fitted without breaking it. Saved me around $300. Not to be sniffed at.

Another alternative for your roof is to have it painted white. Makes the car far cooler. I did this with my LC lid. The original blue roof was too hot to touch in the Queensland sun (let alone holding your hand on it!). After hitting it with white gloss roofing enamel, it was cool to the touch! Made the cab hugely cooler too. No air conditioning in most cars in those days, let alone in a LC deep well ute ... :iconwink:.
 
Made the bottom brackets for my cargo barrier and painted them. Replaced the rear tie down points bolts with hi-tensile ones as the back ones will be holding my cargo barrier.

Went to make the top arms for the cargo barrier, and low and behold the child restrains are imperial :furious: so gave up, i'll have the get some 5/16x18tpi bolts tomorrow

Long story short.

I took my Forry to try out my new mechanic who comes highly recommended from several people :iconwink:

I told him to do a minor (10K) service & to also give a once over as it was due for rego.

Well :censored: me what an awesome mechanic :biggrin:
Not only has he given it the once over, but he took it on himself to do a bumper to bumper check on every single thing. Probably because I told him of what the dealer (correction stealer) did to me :catfight:

And let just say, what a difference.
My Forry now purrs like a kitten & feels like it's brand new & straight off the show room floor :monkeydance:
On top of that, he washed my Forry, gave it a vacuum, cleaned & degreased the engine (& engine bay) aswell as that he gernied (pressure cleaned) the entire under body. All for free :woohoo:
Nothing was too hard & was all done with a smile.
On top of that, it was all done for a very good price too.
If anything I was ripping him off, not the other way round for a change :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

I decided to pay my EX- mechanics a visit yesterday & even though it's been a few mths, it was well & truly worth the wait :ebiggrin:

I rocked up to Tom Kerr (the dealer i used to use) & they asked if I had my Forry booked in for a service.
As they reached for their files I replied yes, but not with them :p
I told them that my Forry was with my new TRUSTED mechanic :twisted::biggrin::twisted::biggrin:
The place went quiet & their faces went blank :o

I then asked them for a copy of all my receipts for the work that they'd done. For some reason the place (again) went really, really quiet :lol:

They then asked why, together with the statement of ... So you're selling it ??
I just replied no, my new mechanic just wanted to have a look at what had been (supposedly) done so that he knows what to look out for :poke:

After a few seconds (which seemed to take forever) they Sh1t their pants in a big way :raspberry: :lol:

Did I care ???? No. Not in the slightest.
I just had a massive smile from ear to ear :lol: & told them I'd be back later in the day to pick up all the copies of my receipts from the work I'd previously had done by them :)
