Outback '01 2.5 4eat VDC project

So couple years ago i bought myself my first subaru ever and after long time thinking took outback against forester. Didint had budget for newer one so went for some 2nd gen that i found

It was 2001 subaru outback 2.5 4eat eith rear LSD and early VDC package. All weather with heated seats, windows, climate control.
It has rear self leveling shocks still ok condition so i left them just put 2" spacer on top. Not sure is it made car harder and less comfy but it can take load very well. But its not soft car to drive fast on bad roads
Then i cut front bumper and put steel skid plate just for engine. Diy it myself from steel sheet from scrapyard

Can you clear ABS codes by disconnecting the battery?

I tried that way i clear just ecu stuff. I read that people saying abs module have its own memory that it keeps codes still . Not sure but i read that. And then if code is active it would pop up again yes? I will test now all 4 wheel abs sensora with omether to see are they all good.
Maybe with computer connected to car it could reset my abs codes. But im not getting abs codes on obd2 scanner just engine related codes.
Cant find any more info about abs codes and reseting them manualy in net so not sure. I could disconnect abs pump module cables then turn on ignition then put back cables or smt . Not sure but i maybe will try some stuff i have volmeter so i could check something with it but i cant find more info that just to check abs sensors

So all sensors are good checked them one by one they all showed about 1.22 to 1.27 ohms

Last time I had my abs light on I did the resistance test and all 4 sensors seemed in spec, but it still turned out to be a dodgy sensor. An expensive OBDII reader from an actual mechanic was the only thing that picked it up. Subaru seemed to have prevented the cheaper scanners from reading many of the codes. My rear right wheel sensor went dodgy when offroading. There was no sign of visible damage on and I don't remember doing anything particularly rough, it's like it randomly died. After replacing the sensor the light went out after about 1km of driving, but the code remained and could only be cleared by the expensive OBDII scanner. Also, pulling the abs fuse seems to create a temporary code that can disappear. If you know a mechanic with a quality scanner that would be ideal. Otherwise up to you visit a mechanic or start guessing what needs replacing.

Yh its only option now visit some mechanic with scaner that knows whats subaru is. Those abs codes reads by that separate socket or same obd2 ?

still nothing on that ABS error. all cables looks ok if only i would know how those cable goes and does this car have some wheel angle sensors i dont think so speed ones sure but other kind ? VDS has its own sensors but they not measure angles i think . i would think so there is that socket to read ABS codes why its no way to reset them , then if its active error it would came up right away on again and if its not active error it would go away . or do i need go to garage that they would plug computer i would pay them money and they would reset my ABS codes.

I was told that generic OBD2 readers cannot touch that part of the system. Do you have an ABS light turned on or is it just the check engine one? Cheers.

My ABS codes were read through the same OBD2 socket. Subaru make it harder for generic OBD2 scanners to read some of the codes. But quality scanners still read them through the same socket.

About one of sensors would be still bad well car was fine before i removed steering rack and after i put it back i changed steering pump oil and then bleeded system so i turned wheels to sides but i cant imagine why abs would make error from that. But abs sensor become bad from that i duno... Ill see what scannere they have here. just i wont know are they good they scan it take money and if it will scan what i need then ok but if not i still will need pay money for scanning.
Again im getting 2 codes from that separate socket read codes manually it gives me 8 3 8 2 codes ir i read it right.

ABS and vdc lights on when engine starts and its on all time so abs doesnt works i tried ro brake and i just lock my wheels.
It was fine before i did steering rack job and i didint disconnect battery while doing that so maybe thats why

As other's have said, that might actually be a faulty sensor. A deep scanner or a Subaru Select Monitor will be able to determine whether or not that is the case. Cheers.

Im trying to find scanners that can read my abs and so far no kuck around town will try another city. So much trouble.
Ok so sensor become faulty while car was standing?? How it works i dont get it, it was ok before i drove i left car removed steering rack put it back and got abs light. Would be easy if it would be sensor but i got 2 codes 38 and 28 and another one says its outlet valve, which is outlet valve? Near wheel?
Some say its just abs brain got confused mayne and i need try reset abs code with scanner. So i need find scanner anyway. One that works anyway

Have you checked the reluctor wheels to make sure they are clear? (I am assuming your car has them; some later ABS systems sense the wheel bearing instead)

went to fellow subaru club garage and he connect to my abs... and there was no codes at all... but after cleaning them still lights on car went off... then first try driving and when first time press brakes car does some wierd stuf with abs and then light comes up again. checked on lifted car, passenger side wheel bearing is toasted so maybe that what makes ABS light... will do wheel bearing changing and then look again . so no codes its just ABS finds some anomaly when car moves. when it stopes maybe nothing bad there so no codes but light still on .

changed bearings ..ABS light still came up but noe after driving in straight . thing is turn car off , then start engine ABS light goes off.. if i drive straight like its comes up again, but if i drive round to one side or to other circles ABS light never come up ... i think as i removed steering rack i touched that bolt , someone said me try to tighten that bolt , so i did i tried to tighten that bolt on steering rack and after that i got bad wheel aligment, though before aligment was ok so puting back steering rack should make no difference there but it made bad aligment, and ABS light started with that ....so now i duno i will remove tomor sterring rack againa and try to release that bolt some , problem is i dont marked it and i dont remember on what position it was ...
i just dont know what else is going on here...
there was so me wierd thing on driver side wheel one time i drove from corner i i felt like driver side front wheel was stucking like it was braking but just one wheel ,,some weird stuff i almost drove off road then ABS light came up and all normal again with driving... so something is wrong there...
ABS take signal from CV's not bearing i think. and they are proper bearings for this model

When I had my abs problem, for the first minute or so of driving, the abs light wouldn't come on and I sometimes had no brakes as the abs was kicking in way too much. Once the abs light came on it was no issue. I ended up pulling the abs fuse for the time that it took me to get it fixed just for safety. Your wheel getting stuck might be the result of a VDC system that is very confused because one of the sensors isn't working.

Did the mechanic go for a quick drive with the scanner plugged in? He should be able to see if the wheel speed sensors are reading your speed. That would at least narrow down the problem. You would also get others readings like G force in left, right, accelerating and decelerating directions. Maybe there is a steering angle sensor? But I don't know where it would be or what it would look like...

As for the steering rack bolt, you can gradually loosen it until the alignment feels better and you can visually check by running string across the tyres left and right, front to rear, or get it done properly by a shop. If doing on going work I usually do it my self first just to get it close for the time being and then go to a shop once everything else is sorted.

Yes we drove with scanner and all 4 wheels showed same speed. And wierdly there was no abs codes at all. I still think i mmessed up steering rack somehow cant see other options anymore. Or its too loose and vdc dont know why wheels are loose and turns off
Yes i do my alignment with string myself. So i redone alignment by new changed steering rack so its ok now but something maybe off there. But see problem is just driving straight then its confused but what could make that. Scanner didint show any other readings just speed i think no g readings or angle. Never thought its so complicated car wow. That vdc really sees all and feels all lol.

Now i know what i messed up . Steering column i didint put is same position and its little off to one side thats why sensors going crazy but how to put it on center now? Will search is there measurements how much it should be to both aides out.

If your steering wheel is off-center, then you probably misaligned the steering shaft / spline connection to the rack when you re-installed it.
