Locker

Was wondering how long until one of these showed up in an L Series! Looks awesome! I assume the diff is from a liberty using the gen 1 stub axles? Last I saw it wasn't possible with the L Series bolt in stubs?

That S/tb works damn good ! He is from Lithuania like you Scalman, did you already meet him and asked him a few questions about his build ?

well i asked some in forum , hes giving some info in his thread here in local forum. didint met him in real yet. he have couple cool project in past with old subarus. though those are kinda not road legal cars i think. not sure you could pass MOT with those mods on suspension. its impressive sure.
though from couple companies that makes lockers on that torq style lockers from one company kinda braking , metal is not good or smt so now they using lockers from other russian company , they used better metal better prepeared it i think so they hold for now ok... but its will be seen how long those will hold. i mean you dont wanna your all rear diff goes out in the middle of nowhere.
i think in the end he get some water because its started work and sound kinda weird is it ? like lost power.

If you ever meet him or talk to him through a forum, could you ask him what suspension parts/bits he uses to gain wheel travel ? Just for knowledge.

He made custom longer shocks from oem subaru oil shocks. But not gas one just oil old ones so they took it apart and made it longer . He said it was just about 600 euros for shocks and links because then he needed custom links too. But for that price its cheap. But it was just one custom product made for him. He have videos of just his long travel shocks before locker what difference it makes.

Looks like the rear wheels are a bit forward when drooping. It seems that he needs trailing arm spacers, as well.

Man, if we are to do those mods here, we would need a lot of fortune for those certifications. Even modifying our end links need certification!

Can you ask what locker he is using?

I think he uses the Torq Locker.

@scalman, would you ask him what tires/size he's on ? Too many questions there ! Thanks !

Not torq but same style russian made locker
He uses restored tires 235/55R17 there again not good for high speeds or long trips as restored from old tires. But ok for local trips

Thats why i said i think its not road legal car. Hes driving in its local forest that is where he lives.

Not every 4x4 modified offroader could do that.
He said front cv axles changed too to something else. Everything custom all links taken from something else or made custom
He said now hes on old style automatic gearbox that not give lot to rear until you give more revs so its easier for locker , he want to put vtd gearbox so it would be then more torque to rear all time unknown how then locker would work. I think vtd gives 55/45 split more to rear

No problem. I was fascinated myself the stuff he did and asked myself mostly same questions, but most stuff i wouldnt do too my car as he did just because it must stay road legal. But some stuff i liked sure and now hes testing locker so that will be nice to see how it goes. Its not all good with those russian lockers there as we can see. They brake at least from other company. And even driving with this kind locker on roads where it clicks all time in corners you wouldnt pass mot with it here i think if they would hear it too on test.

I found this on YT. That click, clack, bang of the locker is hard. The auto-lockers usually need better rear-diff bushes to reduce that and probably heavier oil? Has anyone got any insights on this? Cheers.

EDIT: The locker banging starts at around 05:32. Cheers.

But thats how those lockers work by clicking, about banging not sure what was that.
And maybe thats why we dont see any more videos from people who bought them or from makers themselfs. One thing is to show how they works around in one place but to use them daily for hundreds and thousands km's not sure

And those russian lockers at least from one maker allready braking from heavy use here and in russia lots response from people allready here that metal is bad. Maybe those us torq lockers are much better quality

Yes. I think the publisher of the video didn't expect it to be that loud. The thing is, some of those who installed it didn't have that much noise magnitude. Or, maybe, the publisher already removed some of his sound deadening. I am not sure. He looked shocked when he first heard the clicking.

i mean it sounds kinda weird , he sure its not his too large tires just rubs with full lock ?. i got rub with my 28.5 size , so how he got his then not rub ?
or they messed up something with puting that locker in . other thing with lift in rear your wheel goes inside and it pushes cv axle inside too, when i did my lift my oem cv axles become kinda too long so i put then shorter ones from some impreza. it must be something there that is just wrong with all that setup. they need try locker with normal tires and maybe without lift first.

it should sound more like that, from 7:40

When mine installed, it was mixed with additive to help.

I was thinking that, as well. That Outback has the loudest clicking sound I've heard so far among the locker-equipped Subarus.

On a side note, the tyres may be too large that you can actually hear the transmission running on fluid-drive more than being locked into gear.

I also remember somebody saying that a heavier weight oil may help. What additive did you put in yours? Cheers.

If heavier oil would help with sound wouldnt locker makers would recomend it then? Maybe it wont work then as suppose or not lock all times.

It was installed by my friend with added "power punch oil"
