Have already used 'rude' words and sulked in the Contributors Den' - ain't that what its for? - so will stick to the facts here.
My 'Weekender' brand ('GoGo' model) soft floor camper trailer was stolen from outside my house last night.

At the time it was fitted with an 'Aldi' wheel clamp on the left hand wheel and a fitch lock on the hitch.

REGO: T62110
VIN: 6T9T20ABG7071A010
Serial No. 4586580

This is a pic of just after I purchased it , about 2 1/2 years ago.

'Distinguishing' features include:

  • 'Weekender' name in white on lower front corner. (above)
  • timber pole storage 'box' between tool box and trailer body.
  • outline of toolbox handles where they have been removed from the 'Trojan' toolbox after painting.
  • plastic vents for fridge riveted into the toolbox by previous owner.
  • dried grease on the left hand 'Sunrasia' style wheel, from when it threw a bearing.
  • 'Weekender' and 'GoGo' stickers on swing out tailgate.

Rear photo:

  • Note the 'Weekender Camping Trailers' name and 'dust trail / wave' logo with the slogan 'The original and the best'.

  • Also the 'GO GO' Camping Trailer' model name on the bottom of the swing out tail gate. (The 'Jack lives here' sticker had been removed.)
  • The (larger) Victorian number plate is located on the right (drivers) side of the tail gate, on 2 strips of aluminium screwed / riveted(?) between the 2 cross bars on the tail gate.
Any sightings please report to Vic. Police - Moonee Ponds Police Station crime desk. Officer Greg Lunt.

I am offering a reward of $1000 for return.

TIRFOR HAnd winch...

Contents includes a TIRFOR hand winch, with single double and triple pulley blocks and cable.
So, if you come across a TIRFOR for sale, please let me know... :lildevil:

Given my Irish ancestry I would kneecap the cnuts for starters.
All day I have been imagining driving down the road with the 'hardware' the red necks were packing in Easy Rider, and coming across these b@stards...

Hay barry thats real ****ty . people are such assholes and too lazy to.get a job and buy there own . sorry to.hear of such crap

At least you are insured.
I hope they catch the scumbags & you get all your gear back.

I'll be keeping an eye & ear out for you Barry.

Regards
Mr Turbo

That is terrible news Barry. What a low thing to do.

Best of luck with trying to get it back. Will keep an eye out for it.

Gidday Barry

At least that's good news about your Sidchromes. One just cannot buy spanners now that are made the way the old Sidchromes were made.

About 10 years ago, I took a 12" extension bar that I bought into the local Repco store, and they replaced it with a new one for nothing. The ball retention spring had broken some 30 years prior ... .
I bought the original when I was about 18 y.o. - i.e. a bloody long time ago!!

Now, that's what I call honouring the lifetime guarantee that came with it originally (not with the "new ones"; i.e. ones made in the last 30 years or so ... ).

Last time I priced a Sidchrome 38 mm socket (you know what they are for, so does Stilson ... :iconwink:), it was around $100 or so!

AND, one of the first things I did after having my trailer rebuilt was to up the insurance to a fair replacement value of around $2,000.

Glad to hear that yours was insured.

Howdy Barry,
Bad news, sorry to hear it!
And for the thieves, they better hope the police find them before some of your mates do

Just posted in your "list" thread.

As I said in there - it's **** that this still happens in this day and age - It simply shouldn't!

All the best with it! My uncle had a 6 tonne bulldozer lifted among other gear with it. We've never seen the dozer again, only found the paddock bomb they'd trashed on a back road when someone called it in.

Both the bulldozer and your camper are probably interstate by now.

All the best mate.

Bennie

F**K me mate! Only just read this, that's terrible to hear! I hope you get it back, if you do find out who did it break their bloody legs :eviltoyou::furious:

Please keep us updated :iconwink:

Looks terrific Barry.

What is its weight?

I wouldn't have thought that this would be too heavy to tow . After all, it does have over-ride brakes.

[EDIT]

I just read the review, and the all-up mass cannot exceed 1250 Kgs (that's all the suspension is rated for ... ), so well within the 1,400 kgs maximum towing weight for your car.

I reckon that I have towed that kind of weight behind Roo1 many times at highway speeds without any difficulty, and several times with very high, flat loads (like 6 foot high wardrobes and the like ... ). Roo1's gearing and engine specs (1.8L ... ) were all wrong compared with your 2.5L OB or a 2.5L Fox. It just shouldn't be a problem with this kind of flat, enclosed load shape in the slipstream of your car. You also have the DR tranny if things get pear shaped ... :poke: :iconwink: :lildevil:.

The reviewer talks about a ball weight of 90 to 110 kgs, which I reckon is way too high. That could be reduced to a more rational figure of 40 to 60 kgs by the simple expedient of rearranging the load, IMHO ...

As of the end of next week my insurance will write off mycamper and pay me out.
Here is what I intend to replace it with, a 1998 Heaslip off road rear folding soft floor camper.
CamperhitchedtoCharlie.jpg

Took it for a tow this afternoon. Very nice, and for just over 1/3rd of 'new' price - not that they are being made these days, the Heaslips retired a couple of years ago.
It tows well and is a very well thought out unit. Probably at the upper end of my range in terms of weight and size - cant see over the thing in the mirror - but is well within spec.

Demonstrates the usefulness of the low ratio gears. If necessary could tow in low ratio all day, something that cant be done with the earlier, lower, gearing.
Just goes to demonstrate how everything is a compromise...

I am thinking about a rear rack on the trailer to take my roof rack, so I can redistribute weight to make the ball weight less.

Be interesting to see what the towball download really is. It's certainly enough to overcome the self-levelling struts and make the front sit up a fair bit. That rear mounted spare wouldn't be helping either.
