Central NSW Harvest

Hmmm. Have you ever been a farmer/grazier, Ben?
Spent a little time in the country yeah.
I know that the good times are far and few, and that it is probably one of the most expensive games to play.
In fact, I was studying agriculture in the early eighties, pretty much at the end of the good times for the sheep industry in my opinion, which is why I didn't continue on with it. It's been a bit of a slog for farmers for the last few decades that's for sure and not getting any easier, particularly with export at the moment.
I still hanker for a block away from the madding crowd.

Edit: You've gotta admit though, some of those crops out on the big properties are worth that sort of money.
and I never mentioned profit!

We owned a couple of properties in my youth. Politicians financially ruined our family between 1972-1975.

You thought droughts and floods were the major risk, I suspect.
Not my experience ...

Ahh.. cutting tariffs and increased interest rates? Can't really blame them for the recession and oil crisis, which would have been enough on their own.

Oops, getting a bit off topic here. :censored:

Export policies, unbelievable interest rates (23%+), crazy financial/economic policies. The recession was the federal government's own doing. The oil crisis was after 1975.

This is a statement of the facts of the matter, not any kind of party political.

It ruined us, and this beautiful property got turned into an open cut coal mine ...

Never had a chance then, nothing would have saved the property once the miners got interested.
