Hey there mates, how many trips have you guys cancelled due to COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions?

I have already cancelled 2 tours this year, one in March and another this May, even though we are moving to the looser Level 2 restrictions tomorrow as I am going to give it a few more weeks for people to wind down after being free from being locked down. Also, after 3 days, Auckland will be having water restrictions as we are experiencing severe drought at the moment, so no Northern tours for me as I won't be able to wash my car and I always wash it after every tour. I may be able to tour the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Region and wash my car there before heading back to Auckland but some places in the Bay of Plenty have already been experiencing lower than usual rainfall for 6 months now.

I may be able to head to the desert in August/July but that's too far away. Countries who eased their lockdowns before NZ are already having new outbreaks.

There's were 4 club trips cancelled end 2019 / early 2020 due to fires and then the virus. No new trips scheduled until September / October. There is usually an extended trip mid-year but no-go this year. It would be nice to get out in the bush again!

Oooof, that's a lot cancelled.

Me too. I am now longing for that much needed isolation fix but we are saving a lot during these times. Money saved = money earned!

We were planning on going to Aarkaroola in South Australia mid June but it looks like we won't be able to get into S.A., then head north to either birdsville or innamincka, from N.S.W. Might be able to travel inside N.S.W. by then so we're thinking we might cut the holiday short & just do the darling river run. Maybe?!

The Darling River run is a good trip

just do the darling river run.
Just read this morning that there is a good amount of water in the Darling at the moment, would be a great time to see it. :)
Hard to believe that only 70 or so years ago riverboats used to be one of the main forms of transport.

We were supposed to have done the darling river run 12 months ago, but when we got to Bourke to start it, it rained the previous day & closed all the dirt roads. In the middle of a drought!
Might have to stop planning trips!

This lockdown was good for the environment but it wasn’t long enough. Either way, our natural environments will cop an absolute flogging when ppl return to camping and 4wd’n.

And I reckon many will go hard to “make up” for “lost time in the bush”.

I for one am keen to get out there again but in our usual way, no over doing it in celebration.

Cheers

Just like the Aral Sea. That one is a total catastrophe.

Me too. It going to be more like a planned Tiki tour for me. I will have to refrain from planning too much haha.

Pretty keen too but in a more casual way but remote still. Off-road touring here isn't as free compared to OZ or the USA but remote and off-grid is what I am always after. I can wait.

My Darling river run got canned. It was scheduled for July but too much uncertainty.

I am planning a camping trip this June long weekend... Have you seen the National Parks websites, every man and their dog is planning the same.... Im starting to enjoy camping in my backyard.

G'day temmah.
What is the uncertainty about the darling river run? We're leaving on 13/6 & will probably be starting it at Bourke about 17/6. Going to have a couple of days at lightning ridge first.

It was just the uncertainty of if everything would be opened up. We started planning early this year. Then we started not planning. We will go later this year.

Let me know how it goes and share some pics.

I'm heading out this long weekend to Billywillinga to camp on the Macquarie river.

Its gonna to be cold.

Have fun! I'm sticking to the backyard atm ;)

Nice. I’m hoping to get some good shed time in!

Cheers
