Slight issue with our 2005 Forester. If we hit a large bump or pothole the rear drivers suspension feels like it is hitting the bump stop. Now mechanic has had all wheels off and checked everything and test drove it. Couldn't find anything wrong. All bushes fine no leaks on shockers. Has given a quote for replacement shocks and spring unit. Is there anything else we should be looking at?

well its just sounds like that , maybe you just driving it too fast and then it goes all metal banging noices .. just slow down maybe
no leaks on shocks doesnt mean they good. if they never changed maybe it is time to change them to new ones ,with springs of course, because there is nothing else there just shocks and bushings on links. thats all.

Certainly not driving it to fast - a bit of an assumption - it happens at low speed as well.

Stephen, has your car got self-levelling struts?
Nope just standard struts, looks like I might replace then anyway. Get the height back. Don't want to do too much as we intend to replace the car next year. But still want to take the occasional off bitumen trip.

If you will sell car anyway maybe dont put new parts in it then. But struts are not that expensive are they? Might just change them just you wont get back those money

Especially if the struts are gas-filled - Shocks wear all the time molecularly. Well-built ones won't leak but internally, the valves may have already been worn out.
