Might be able to pick these up for around $500.00 ($180 for the centre, $350 for the front & rear diffs only - no housings)
Question is, would they fit in my SG series 1 Forester, and would there be a benefit?
Does anyone know what the Diff Ratio is on the SG N/A 5MT Forester?

Oh well. Seller just got back to me, sold em so the question is moot.

cool so whats your plan for this car anyway , what you wanna use it for ... ? maybe you dont need those extreme mods

SG N/A 5MT Forester is 4.111 diffs

WRX may have a 1.1 centre diff, so the front & rear diffs will be different ratios. Something to check
Lots of models have 4.44 diffs, yes there is a big advantage to that, much better offroad. But you would also need the matching 5th gear to keep the revs similar on the open road
Read diff is probably Suretrac. Don't waste your money on that, totally useless offroad going from what others have experienced
Driver Controlled Centre Diff (DCCD) is excellent for offroad, but you can only use the 5spd DCCD, the DCCD from the 6spd gearbox won't fit

so you here must know a lot about diffs , what diff is this ? does 44 something means 4.44 gears ? thank you

so is it 4.44 diff ? means my gears shorter , lower ?

I don't know, sorry. But you can test it if you lift the car off the ground by turning manually the main shaft and count the wheel rotations.

ok . so numbers 44something doesnt mean 4.44 ? i thought what else they could mean .. ?

That's part of the casting, it's probably a batch number for the manufacturer of the casing. I don't think it means anything for the diff ratio

As @jf1sf5 said, you can count the rotations, or if the diff is out of the car, take the back off & it will say on the crown wheel

Ok got it. It doesnt matter really. But one other thing when just one side rear is lifted its hard to spin wheel its like some kind of resistance going. Its not brakes and not handbrake i checked , its was easy to spin wheel with hand on 2001. Could it be LSD diff maybe? And yes i know how to check that to lift both sides and spin one side.

hey @scalman if you want to confirm ratio just drop the oil out and check what is stamped on the ring gear. Alternatively count the teeth of both the ring and pinion! Subaru final drive rations are as follows

3.54 = 39/11
3.70 = 37/10
3.90 = 39/10
4.11 = 37/9
4.44 = 40/9

I paid $60 for a WRX 4.44 rear diff with a vLSD in it, and $150 for a WRX 4.44 front ring and pinion including the diff. And I picked up a suretrac LSD for $120. I plan to get my L series running 4.44 eventually but I barely have time to scratch myself right now so its all sitting on the shelf still.

This is available for the front differential 5MT gearbox, not sure for the 5EAT. At the rear, you have to take the cover off.
