Just thought I would post this scan from the original SG Forester brochure showing the front sub-frame (that's right, the front sub-frame ...:poke:) and some of the reinforcing frames ...

:poke:

Where did you find this? Also is the orange bit in the drawing the red bit in the key? Might be my eyes but looks orange to me....

The colours are the same in the original - i.e. a bit "off".

^ Yeah, I can see that it would make it a tad more difficult, Kevin.

Just thought I would post this scan, given that many people keep mentioning that the Foresters don't have a front sub-frame ...

Thank you for posting this, Ratbag! I still have aspirations of installing improved recovery hooks up front. So this will come in handy.

I do not know, but looking at the way our little soldiers stand up to being beaten up in prangs, I suspect that they are pretty tough in this regard :).

^ me too... question is: is the sub-frame strong enough?

For recovery, I think it'll remain a good idea to use a load-spreading V-strap, simply because the Forester is a unibody construction.

My purpose is to tie-off my hot air balloon during inflation, which does not involve any point loads. I've been tying off to the tow ring with a climbing carabiner and webbing strap for years. For me, any modification would be to improve access -- I don't like crawling under my car when I would rather focus on pre-flight and take-off.

Wish my 2006 had a screw-into-the-bumper type tow ring. Then I could just get a shiny red aluminium one for $20 off eBay. But that's wishful thinking. :raz:
