Bumper under guards

So in the process of trying to figure out what I want, I came across this addon if I purchased new. The front and rear bumper under guards. Are they only for looks or do they serve a purpose? Subarus website is a bit vague, but I'm guessing it's only for looks.

I don't know about the rear one. But if I have the right item in mind, the front bumper under guard is made of aluminum, so should be much stronger than the plastic bumper.

However, those things will only cover the bumper, nothing beyond it. What you really want is a replacement sump guard made from aluminum or steel. The two best sources here in the US are Primitive Racing and RalliTEK.
