I picked up a copy of a book called, Cloncurry Trails. It describes and maps out a fair few of the 4wd tracks in between here and Cloncurry and tomorrow I'm gonna try going to the old uranium mine Mary Kathleen

The book describes this as moderate so I think it'll be "Suby safe" although I'm willing to tackle the "diffcult" rated ones. I'll be going with a mate in his old lifted patrol so I'll have decent backup if anything goes awry. Anyway, I found this youtube video... but I wonder if there's some more challenging stuff there

Have fun.

DON'T camp in the vicinity ...

Radium Hill in SA is no longer even marked on ordinary maps ...
Bloody place is so "hot" that they put up a double (?) man-proof netting fence around the whole area (about 70 sq kms; or 70 kms in diameter - I can't recall), and one needs a special permit to enter it. AFAIK, camping or staying for any extended period (like 24 hours ... ) is prohibited.

It wouldn't hurt to apply the same safety standards to a visit to the old Mary Kathleen mine site, IMHO.

we were talking about camping there but where the actual township used to be before they closed it all down, it's a fair few k's from the open cut mine
