Anyone keen to organise a snow trip this year ?

Alternatively some suggestions for places to go and when?

Subaruby,

Mid August is usually the best snow in Vic (But not always)

Good places to go are the Mt Skene road from either Licola, or Jamieson. Sometimes behind Woods Point / Matlock area can have good snow as well.

By the end on May I should know my Ski Patrol roster, andf should know which of my free weekends I shoud be able to organise something.

That'd be good Richard. I'm not exactly sure what's happening yet but Kez and I are hoping to be working in the snow this year... So I'm unsure about dates I'll be able to get off as there's a school camp I'm hoping to work in the middle there, which may limit things.

Keen as mustard as always though!

Cheers

i'm up for it - but i'd like to camp overnight. I've snow camped on Mt Skene in amongst the Snow Gums (magic! and you are absolutely alone!) and also at Lost Plain at Mt Arbuckle which is not a 'bad' campsite, it's got a toilet, fireplaces, and a carpark (argh!) and you can be woken early by daytrippers.

... is nobody interested in snow camping? ..... my brother was up around Howitt Plains last weekend and he noted a few nice potential bush campsites off the beaten track (and well away from the day trippers).

Love snow camping! I'd be up for it if I can get the time off work...

Hmmmmmm! "time off work" ..... in the 20th Century we're all time poor eh! - are you're working 24/7 or just awkward times like over weekends? - I hope we can work out something...

Would love to get my Blacks 'Good Companion' tent out in the snow. I love snow camping.
However, am fairly tied up with junior footy. Got roped in as Team Manager for my son's U16 side. (3rd year out of 6!)
Will check the draw and see when we are likely to be free. I think we still have 11 weeks plus finals.
Onebob, I was lucky enough to spend a couple of weeks in yrs 11 & 12 at Mt Tanboritha - my school in Brunswick built the huts there. A truly great part of the world!

Last home and away is 25 July. If the boys go all the way grand final would be 22nd of August. If not I would be free before then.
(I'll just wait and see!)

Ahh! ..... Mt Tamboritha..... photo of 55 year old hoon 'enjoying' the snow on the mount in 2008.

Nah I'll be working in the snow for the first time so I'm not sure what the go is yet... I may be able to make it, but if work doesn't allow I'll have to skip this one :( It'd be the first vic outting I've missed since a small group of us got the ball rolling a few years back.

I'm looking forward to it if I can make it! I'll stay in the loop though.

Cheers

OK. As a member of the Subaru 4wd Club of Victoria, I will be running a day trip around the back of Rawson on Saturday August 14.

I can not gaurantee that there will be much snow, if at all. That is up to the weather.

Due to this trip being a Club trip (ie listed on our calender) any vistors (any one from ORS) will need to pay a vistor fee of $10.00. This is for the Clubs public liabily insurance (the Club does not keep this, it is passed on to our insurer)

I wont be offended if people do not want to come due to having to pay for a trip, I understand the philosophy of this site. (I was member #2 on ORS v1.0 with TonyW). This is an invite from the Club to other Subie owners. The more, the merrier.

Details of meeting place and exsact times will be posted later.

Any takers?

Any questions?

Many of us are so time poor in the 21st century it has taken me this long to see the thread. :) Sounds like a great idea- hope you have a ripper time.

Anymore details such as a location map, start point etc? These will be factors in my decision as I'm currently located on Hotham and will need to get the time off work to be there - if its too far to travel I might have to bale :(

Cheers

Onebob,

I am sure others in the Club would like to see how the MY10 goes.

Bennie,

Rawson is close to Moe, Latrobe Valley. To come down from Hotham, via Omeo would take about 5 or so hours. You would probably have more snow there, but it would be good to meet up in person, and the distance may not be worth it. If you still wish to come, I will give more details later.

yep - I'm keen, i would like to be going on the Geolandar AT/S tyres i had on my previous Forry but have to be happy with the standard highway Bridgestone's until i can wear them out. I've already got August 14 marked in the calendar, got the chains out and dusted off, and will have a hand cable winch in time for the trip. Let's go.......

I'm pretty keen as well Beige! It will come down to how I'm feeling at the time - as you've said its a fair distance to travel! I'll probabily be coming from Lancefield which is slightly shorter - then head back to Mt Hotham after. I hope we're headed towards the Mt! Will be a big day but I'm pretty used to that - our GORoad day cruise started at 8am, we split in Geelong at 11pm after a bit of everything, I got home at 1am! Good times.

I'll pack the 27's as well  And bring my $10, I don't mind paying this. It will also be good to talk to you about the ins and outs of the club too as I'm thinking of joining, just that my location seems to be so far from everyone else!

And did I see your subi cruise past the Arlberg in Hotham? I was on the Village chair but I swear the beige wagon I saw cruise past there had a spare wheel and jerry can holder - but I was too far away to be 100% so I thought I'd ask.

Cheers

All being well I should have the OB back from the hail repairs by Friday the 6th, so will be a 'goer', provided that the young bloke's footy team isn't still in the finals (probable that I will be available, given the team's performance to date).

Unfortunately I have the lift and King Springs in by then, however.

Will have an RDO on the Fri, so might even head up there for a snow (slush?) camp on Friday night!

Happy to pay the $10. Like Bennie I am on the wrong side of Melb for 'clubbing'.
(Although we 2 and Alpine Raven could start a 'North / West' Melb. club, I guess!)

Will confirm once I know for sure what is happening.
