While we believe that XenForo is an intuitive platform there are some differences in terminology when compared to vBulletin. Here is a short user guide to get you started now that we’re live.

XenForo can:
- Drag and drop images, videos, sound files
- Provide a better mobile experience
- Have all textual content supporting emoji
- Give Likes
- Add bookmarks
- Use Watch lists
- Have a private round-table “Conversation” (PM) with invited participants
- Allow logon with user name or email address
- Edit messages entirely in-place
- All features are available and ready to use on all devices including mobiles

Note that, unlike the old forum, thread content will not be visible unless you are logged on.

Some guidance (you’ll often find there is more than one place to select a function which makes it all very easy to navigate):

Homepage
After logging on you’ll see that the home page now has a right hand column displaying members online, latest posts, forum stats and social media links. (the RH column disappears when you move off the Home Page) The mobile version does not display the RH column but displays similar info when you scroll to the bottom of the display.

New Posts
There are 2 x “New Posts” buttons. Above the Home Page right hand column and over to the left under the “Home” button.

“Post Thread”
You can post a new thread directly from the Home page. Simply select the “Post Thread” button and a forum list will display from which you can select the appropriate forum for your new post.

Account management (was “User CP”)
Click your member name RH side of the top banner and everything you need to modify your account and manage your “Bookmarks” is available here. At the bottom of the displayed panel is the “log out” button.

“Conversations” (was “Private Messaging” or “PM”)
To the right of your member name select the envelope icon and you’ll able to manage your messages. Use the “Start Conversation” button to create a message. Optionally, “Conversations” can be a round-table conversation where participants can invite others to take part.

“Alerts”
The bell icon will indicate if you have any Alerts e.g. mentions, tags etc.

“Search”
Provides access to search and advanced search.

Bookmarks
You can bookmark discussions as a handy way to remember and easily find content or stuff you want to read later.

Watch
Thread subscriptions are now called “Watched”. Watching a thread is a way to stay up-to-date on the topic, and receive alerts or emails when there are new replies.

Following
You can Follow another member by clicking on their avatar and clicking “Follow”.

Quote and Multi-Quote
If you click “Reply” on a post within a thread then that post will be Quoted; even the last post. If you simply make use of the “Write your reply” box at the end of the thread then no posts are quoted. (This is the preferred method for contiguous responses). Multi-Quote is achieved by clicking “Quote+”.

Pics
Just Drag & Drop or also easy to post by selecting the little square box with the mountain image (10th across from the left) on the tool bar and then drag and drop an image. If you then click on the image you can resize it in place. You can also select to insert the thumbnail and/or full image.

To insert a URL you would use something like this:
Code:
[IMG]https://import.offroadsubarus.com/styles/default/xenforo/2614244590101960247S500x500Q85.jpg[/IMG]

The surrounding codes are "BB codes" and their descriptions are here in the Help link bottom RH corner of the screen: Help

You can also insert a link without having to worry about BB Codes by using the "Insert Link" (Ctrl+K) "chain links" icon 9th across on the toolbar

But the easiest method by far is to left click and hold on an image and drag it into the post.

Code is generated automatically and looks like this:
Code:
[IMG]https://www.subaruforester.org/d1/avatars/m/249/249802.jpg?1564948894[/IMG]

"Attach Files" can still be used to post a pic and you can select to add as a small Thumbnail or a larger Full Image.

Note that there will be limits placed on Gallery image space, file size (1 meg) and type that can be stored depending on membership level. These limits may need adjusting but for example:
New Member – Cannot store in the Gallery
Member – 10 meg. Images only 620x280
Contributing Member – 30 meg. Images 900x600 & audio
Premium Member – 60 meg. Images 1920x1200, audio, video

AVATARS

Many members will have to re-load their avatar as the field is different. The recommended minimum to load is 400x400. Mine has been reloaded and now appears as it should.
