Came across this on the FYI page of Royalauto (RACV mag).

Fits in the 'drink holder' and charges via the 'cigarette lighter' socket.
Might be just what I need for charging the mobile phone / camera batteries while on the Canmerons Corner trip.

The link shows specs but they are all fairly meaningless to me:lol:, so I thought I'd ask what others think.

All opinions greatfully received.

Can't view the link as it wants to do more with my browser cookies than I allow but I imagine it's the same as this one that's been available from Jaycar for years:

You might also be interested in this newer model which includes a USB port for charging:

My very basic understanding is that these should be fine for charging basic devices but some sensitive devices require a "pure sine wave" inverter. These cost a fair bit more, ususally at least double the price but if it reduces risk of damage to the gear then it might be worth it.

I'm sure someone here will have experience with inverters and be able to add more.

Thanks apsilon. The 1st link shows an identical set of data to that which I had posted.
Second link seems even better. Not only will it allow charging of USB devices, it is much more compact and will leave the drink holder free.:)

Will just have to check that, when plugged into the dash, it and the various charging units don't cause problems with manual gear selection. However, don't expect it to be a problem.

if thats all you want to charge up. you can buy12V dc chargers/transformers fairly cheap individualy. that way if one goes they don't all go;)

I got one of the inverter cans.

Also got a twin 12v + twin usb!!
And its also designed to fit in a drink holder.

Was about $24

I have 2 can type inverters - one is a Waeco branded one, the other is a Jaycar one, one for each car. I use them to charge odd things that I don't have 12v adapters for, like my work laptop. I got a bit carried away last Wednesday, sitting in a park for a few hours and ran the battery flat lol.
